Now that is a sexy V-Strom!

Hessler is a company based in Germany that specialises in building kits and individual mods for a range of Suzuki models from the 1050 to the DRs, RMX and more. Their V-Strom 1050 XT Desert Express kit is one of the most striking builds as is goes in some part where we all wish Suzuki would go in making the V-Strom more dirt ready. The fact that the graphics harken back to the DR BIG with its aesthetic is also a strong point.

Longer suspension travel and increased ground clearance are much appreciated on the Suzuki

THE SEARCH FOR GROUND CLEARANCE

Hessler installs new fork springs, modifies the shim stacks, extends the cartridge and rebuilds the hydrostop which among other effects, takes the travel from 165mm to 195mm.  The standard shock is switched out for a Wilbers type 641 Competition Ø 46 mm ‘HRT Rallye’ unit (HRT in this case stands for Hessler Rallye Team). It’s a fully adjustable, longer shock and together with the HRT linkage and fork changes increase the ground clearance by 30mm which is one of the single greatest gifts to the V-Strom.

A custom triple clamp is fitted to improve stability and ergonomics. You can order the triple clamps in either black, blue, red, silver or gold. Hessler recommends fitting a set of Magura X-Line handlebars which isn’t a bad idea at all on the V-Strom.

Hessler are invoking the DR BIG of days long gone and we are all for it

A bit of bashplate porn right there…if you’re into that type of thing

THE LITTLE DETAILS

To stop crud build-up under the mudguard a lifted guard is fitted which helps stop that surprise front wheel lock-up in wet clay. A side stand extension is fitted because the standard one sucks. The kit also comes with a specially designed chain guide that fits into the existing holes and reduces chain slap.

The Zeta Rallye 1050 windshield is an exact copy of Suzuki DR Zeta by Gaston Rahier and is complemented by the Zeta Rallye 1050 headlight cover and GPS mount. To finish off the transformation a custom bashplate, brake pedal, gear lever, brake levers and RM-Z450 footpegs are fitted, as is an HRT luggage rack and a choice of either a Mivv or Yoshimura pipe.
